Licensing, updates, and transfers

Do I need a license to use Scout?

Yes. One paid Theme Store license per store.

Can I transfer my license to another store?

Only via Shopify, and only if the original store is closed. Otherwise buy a new license.

Are updates free?

Yes, for the licensed store.

Why didn’t I get the automatic update?

You (or an app) edited theme files. Install the new version to the library and re-apply custom code.

Will you migrate my customizations?

No. Re-apply them yourself or hire a developer.

Support scope and response

What support covers

Bugs in the unmodified theme; questions about built-in settings/blocks.

What support doesn’t cover

New features, app integrations, issues caused by third-party code.

Response time

Within 2 business days. Critical theme bugs prioritized.

What to include

Store URL, theme name/version, steps to reproduce, preview link, screenshots/video, device/browser, collaborator code.

Demo stores, docs, and compliance

Do I need a demo store?

Yes, at least one per preset. No apps; real text; payments in test mode.

Where is the documentation?

Public docs site. Link it on your Theme Store listing.

Contact form requirement

Public form with name, email, description, subject.

General configuration

Where do I change colors and fonts?

Theme settings → Colors / Typography.

Custom fonts?

Upload to Files; declare via Custom CSS; set CSS variables for headings/body.

Favicon?

Theme settings → Favicon. 32×32 or 48×48 PNG.

Buttons, spacing, page width?

Theme settings → Buttons / Layout.

Header

Mega-menu setup

Build menus in Navigation. Add mega blocks in Header to attach images, collections, text.

Transparent header

Enable in Header. Set scroll offset for solid-on-scroll.

Predictive search

Enable in Header. Tune synonyms and filters in Search & Discovery.

Sections (home/landing)

Hero images

Use 3840×1600 JPG. Set overlay for contrast. Add alt text.

Countdowns

Use the countdown section or product countdown block. Hide on expiry if needed.

Video

MP4 or YouTube/Vimeo. Always set a poster image (1600×900).

Products

Where do I change the product page layout?

Product template → drag blocks. Title, badges, price, picker, buy buttons, accordions, etc.

Fit indicator labels

Edit in the Fit Indicator block. Optional numeric custom.fit_rating metafield (0.0–5.0) and rich-text scout.fit_notes.

Size chart

Link a page, or reference a size_guide metaobject, or bind a product metafield reference.

Variant swatches

Map colors in Theme settings → Products. Assign images per variant for switching.

Complementary products

Enable complementary/recommendations section or block; supports Shopify recommendations or manual picks.

3D/video

Provide poster images. Use native media blocks.

Collections

Grid vs slider

Toggle in the collection product grid section. Set per-page count, columns, gaps.

Collection hero

Set layout, overlay, height. Use 2400×900 JPG.

Search

Predictive search shows the wrong things

Fix synonyms, result types, and merchandising in Search & Discovery.

Search results layout

Edit the search page section: columns, results per page, empty-state text.

Cart

Cart drawer not opening or updating

Disable app embeds that hijack cart; test on a clean, unedited theme copy.

Free shipping bar

Set the threshold in theme settings; the drawer updates automatically.

Languages, markets, currencies

How to add languages/currencies

Admin only: Settings → Languages; Settings → Markets. Theme just renders selectors.

Selectors missing

Publish the language and enable the market first. Then enable selectors in Header/Footer.

RTL support

Active RTL language switches layout automatically where supported. Review spacing/icons.

SEO, performance, and accessibility

Is the theme SEO-ready?

Yes. Semantic HTML, structured data, responsive images. You own content and internal links.

Change heading tags for SEO tools?

No. Heading structure is for accessibility. Multiple h1s are valid; ignore obsolete warnings.

Page speed is slow

Compress hero images, avoid heavy PNGs/GIFs, limit app scripts, keep LCP image under ~700 KB.

Duplicate schema warnings

Remove SEO apps that inject duplicate JSON-LD.

Metafields and metaobjects

Dynamic source not available

Type mismatch. Use the same type (text↔text, image↔image, URL↔URL, datetime↔datetime).

Variant metafields

Not bindable via the editor. Requires custom code or an app.

Recommended keys

custom.fit_rating (Decimal), scout.fit_notes (Rich text), scout.care_guide (Rich text), scout.launch_ends_at (DateTime), scout.size_chart (Reference).

Images and media

What sizes do you recommend?

Products: 1:1 or 3:4 at 2400px long side.
Hero: 3840×1600.
Collection hero: 2400×900.
Blog hero: 2400×1200. Use JPG for photos.

Alt text

Short, literal descriptions. Human-first.

Apps and compatibility

Will every app work?

Apps are responsible for Theme Store compatibility. If an app breaks the theme, contact the app developer.

Do I need an SEO app?

No. Avoid apps that rewrite titles or schema.

Updates and rollback

Safe update flow

Duplicate theme → add latest version to library → re-apply minimal custom CSS/JS → test → publish → keep old copy for rollback.

Access and security

How do you access my store?

You send the 4-digit collaborator code; we submit a request; you approve in admin.

What should I never send you?

Passwords, payment details, PII.

Browser and device support

What browsers are supported?

Current stable versions of modern browsers on desktop and mobile. Test on Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge.

Known limits

No automatic translation of merchant-entered content.

Variant-specific dynamic bindings require custom implementation.

Mobile header space is reserved; language/currency selectors live in the menu drawer by design.
